FAQs

What types of firings do you offer?

I currently offer mid-range oxidation firings to cone 6 (1260°C), and bisque firings to cone 06 (1030°C).

Can I fire clay or glazes from other suppliers?

Yes! You’re welcome to use your own clays and glazes—just send me the specs beforehand so I can confirm they're safe for my kiln and firing temperature.

How much does kiln rental cost?

Firing prices are based on the amount of space your pieces take up in the kiln, plus a few real-world factors: electricity, time, and wear on equipment.

Here’s a rough breakdown of what goes into the cost:

  • Each glaze firing costs around €45 in electricity alone. Bisque firings are a bit less, but still significant.
  • I handle loading, unloading, and monitoring the firing process. It takes hours of careful work—often spread across two days.
  • Firing shortens the lifespan of kiln elements, thermocouples, and shelves. Part of the cost helps cover ongoing maintenance and replacements.
  • The more space your work takes up, the more it costs to fire. That’s why pricing is calculated by volume (cubic cm), using the calculator above.

If your pieces take up the whole kiln, flat rates apply—these are more economical and better value for large batches.

This isn’t a commercial firing service—it’s a small studio trying to support new potters in a sustainable, fair way. The pricing reflects actual costs, without cutting corners or overcharging.

Do you offer help loading the kiln?

Yes—I'll handle loading and firing to ensure the kiln is packed safely. Just drop off your work, and I’ll take care of the rest.

If you're curious about the process and want to learn, you're very welcome to assist during loading and unloading. I’m always happy to share what I know.

Is my work insured during firing?

While I take great care with every firing, ceramics is always a bit unpredictable. I can't guarantee outcomes or offer compensation for pieces that crack, warp, or are damaged during the firing process.

How do I measure my pieces?

To properly measure your pieces, you need to measure their height and diameter:

Height is measured from the base to the tallest point of the piece.

Diameter is the measurement across the widest part of the piece, even if that’s the belly, base, or lip.

When is payment due?

Once you’ve filled out the rental form and we’ve confirmed everything, I’ll let you know when to send payment. It’s usually settled before the firing.

Payment details will be shared when your booking is confirmed.

Do I need to book a specific date or time for firing?

No need to prebook a specific day or time. Just fill out the kiln rental form with your details, and I’ll get back to you to confirm the next available firing date.

If you’re working toward a deadline or need your pieces fired by a certain time, just let me know in the form—I’ll do my best to accommodate that.
